Co-working and collaboration space opens at Kenosha Innovation Center

The Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood announced this week that Engine Works, a new co-working and collaboration space, has opened on the second floor of the Kenosha Innovation Center building, at 5522 26th Ave.

The Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood is a 107-acre redevelopment on the site of a former Chrysler plant, which closed in 2010. The mixed-use development is slated to include technology incubators and offices, education institutions, businesses, housing and green space. It is located between 52nd Street and 60th Street, mostly east of 30th Avenue.

Kenosha Innovation Center is a 64,000-square-foot, three-story building that opened last year within the Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood. The $23.5 million KIC is meant to serve as a regional hub for startups, entrepreneurs and established companies.

The Engine Works co-working and collaboration space is designed for people who build things, entrepreneurs, small businesses, creatives and technologists. “More than just hot desks and Wi-Fi, the space is intended to be a modern workshop for ideas, a place where individuals and organizations come together to turn ambition into action,” a news release from the Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood states. “Engine Works is part of the Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood’s effort to create an accessible front door to the region’s innovation ecosystem, connecting founders, small businesses, and companies exploring Kenosha with the people and ideas shaping the future of Kenosha.”

The name Engine Works is a nod to Kenosha’s industrial roots.

“Engine Works honors that legacy,” said Kelly Armstrong, president of the Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood. “Instead of manufacturing products, today we’re helping manufacture opportunity, for people, businesses, and the regional ecosystem.”

Membership costs for Engine Works range from a $25 day pass, $100 week pass, to monthly subscriptions for $250 or $350. All plans include access to a kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave, printer access, complimentary coffee and tea, privacy booths for calls or meetings, and opportunities to connect and collaborate with other professionals.
